GoodWatts Energy Management

You are taking part in one of the world's most advanced energy management programs. Within a short period of time, tens of thousands of homes and businesses will be connected to GoodWatts and saving energy.
Together, we can make a difference!

Peak Demand Management

Peak Demand is that time of the day when the amount of power we consume reaches its maximum value. It can sometimes last for hours. During that time, our power grid starts to reach its limits of creating power and delivering it to our homes and businesses in a reliable fashion. And the cost of peak power can run as much as 20 times the cost of lower demand power.

Every year the amount of peak demand power we use in the United States goes up. As we struggle with the issues of global climate change and cost of energy production, we have to start to come up with creative ways to manage peak demand. Not only does peak demand tax our electrical grid, it also costs significantly more to produce than power during lower demand periods. And peak power generators typically are the biggest producers of green house gasses.

So you can quickly see why systems like GoodWatts can have a significant impact on the overall cost of electricity and the reliability of our power grid. Our electric utilities are facing a major challenge in the years to come. Our need for electric power continues to grow and yet, many power companies can no longer build any more power plants. Managing peak demand with a system like GoodWatts helps to keep the lights on for years to come.

New technology for homeowners

For years, homeowners and small business owners have been able to buy energy efficient products. Programmable themostats have been around now for almost 20 years. Energy efficient products and appliances are readily available. But now we face the need to improve the way we use power and to make our electric power grid "smart".

So how does a "smart" grid work? Well simply put, a smart grid is an electric grid where the devices that consume power are aware of the parameters that go into the generation and delivery of power and work in concert with the grid to maintain reliability and manage cost. For example, smart grid appliances will be able to tell if the grid is becoming unstable because there is too much load on it and turn themselves off or down to help relieve some of the load.

For homeowners and small business owners, having smart grid technology like GoodWatts in your home or business means that you can not only monitor and manage your direct costs by maximizing your energy efficiency, but you can also help keep overall power costs from rising as quickly over the long term. By allowing you to monitor and manage your energy use, the GoodWatts system will make you a better, smarter energy consumer.
